J. K. Hosmer letter to F. B. Sanborn [manuscript], 1865 September 7.

Hosmer declines Sanborn invitation to a social science convention but will read the report, and assumes Edward Jarvis will be there. Admits the validity of Sanborn's criticism of "The thinking bayonet." Mentions a Mr. Oakman of Montague who was accused of cruelty (in the treatment of the town paupers?) Would like to help with Mary Carpenter's book and feels Sanborn will be an "instrument of great good."
